On November 16th, the Interdisciplinary Aesthetic Education Project Central Teacher Empowerment Workshop was held grandly at Xiulin Elementary School in Zhushan Town, Nantou County! Although it coincided with the arrival of a typhoon, fortunately, under the protection of the National Protectorate Mountain, the weather in Zhushan gradually cleared up. The cooperative teachers in the central part of the country overcame the wind and rain and participated enthusiastically during the holidays. With the full support of the principal of Xiulin Elementary School in Nantou County, Yang Qingfeng, and the school team, the program was jointly organized with the master plan. The co-host of the plan, Professor Huang Chunmin, and the co-host Professor Zhuang Minren also drove here to participate in the grand event.
The event kicked off with a performing arts workshop led by Professor Luo Minling from the Department of Dance, National Taiwan Sports University. Professor Luo guided the cooperating teachers through cross-disciplinary curriculum design that integrated performing arts into the curriculum design and connected local culture. Consider how teaching methods can have a deeper impact on students. A number of participating teachers were recruited to perform impromptu performances in the workshop, using body language to express emotions. They also performed the content of primary school Mandarin texts to appreciate the depth and practicality of integrating performing arts into subject teaching.
Then, Principal Yang Qingfeng of Xiulin Elementary School shared the school’s practical evolution history through the cross-disciplinary aesthetic education program from curriculum, club activities to campus environment. Through cross-disciplinary aesthetic courses, we collaborate with craftsmen, from on-site observation of bamboo growth to bamboo material selection, bamboo splitting, etc., and even collaborate with craftsmen to create bamboo weaving, closely connecting with the local culture of Zhushan, allowing students to learn knowledge and creativity At the same time, it also creates a sense of identity with the local culture and plants the seeds of circulation for the inheritance of local culture.
In the afternoon, participants visited the Fangshiluang Glazed Art Museum, where glass artist Lin Fangshi introduced glass mosaic technology and colored glass firing technology, sharing their symbiotic model of integrating local relationships. Later, we went to Zhulai Cultural Creation, where Mr. Lai Yanchi explained the story of bamboo art cultural creation and local creation, and discussed the sustainable economic prospects of the bamboo industry and carbon neutrality, echoing the SDGs issues that the project has long been concerned about.
The whole-day workshop, from teaching innovation to industrial culture, was rich in content and practical, and the participating teachers gained a lot. Thanks to the efforts of the principal and teacher team of Xiulin Elementary School, the support of Professor Huang, Professor Zhuang and Professor Luo, and the enthusiastic participation of all teachers, we jointly inject new energy into cross-field aesthetic education!
