On May 15th (Friday), the second lecture of the Sound and Scenery Salon of Beiyi Girls' High School invited Dr. Li Mingcong, a Ph.D. in Sociology, to take the teachers and students present to transcend time and space and listen to the echoes of the times in this city.
At the beginning of the lecture, he broke the cognitive framework that everyone is accustomed to. Dr. Li played "To U" written by Mr. Children in commemoration of the Japanese earthquake, allowing students to close their eyes, open their ears, and feel the kinetic energy of the music with their hearts. The speech focused on popular music in different eras in Taiwan, from the long history of banned songs in the 1930s to local music memory in the digital era; it discussed the cultural context of the folk song period; and also discussed the social identity of soundscapes. Dr. Li guides us to review the history of popular music, and let us feel and think about how music across time, space, and genres is closely intertwined with complex human society and promotes each other.
