On April 12, we held the "Lanyu Elementary School Curriculum Observation" at Lanyu Elementary School in Taitung County. The overall planning session was led by the co-host, Associate Professor Li Qichang, and Mr. Li Zhiguo from the Education Department of Taitung County Government and Director of the General Education Center of Taitung University, Mr. Li Zhiguo, a member of the Planning Teacher Training Committee, were specially invited to attend the meeting. The course observation received strong support from Syamen Womzas, the principal of Lanyu Elementary School, and the Taitung County seed teachers enthusiastically participated and gathered at Orchid Island Elementary School to observe the class.
The curriculum at Lanyu Elementary School combines nature and visual arts, taught by Teacher Cai Ziyin and co-taught by Director Huang Guozheng. First, the class was taught at Lanyu Weather Station. Students were asked to look for insects along the way, take photos, and record the activity characteristics of insects on the course study sheet. After returning to school, the class introduced the types and habits of Orchid Island insects, and asked students to try to draw the patterns of bulbous weevils and create them. During the class discussion, participating teachers put forward their suggestions for the curriculum and discussed that the results exhibition on June 4 would expand to invite teachers and parents from all over the country to participate. The course combines the local landforms, insects and natural subjects of Orchid Island. Through physical observation, students can understand the current environmental status and biological distribution of Orchid Island, and further think about the relationship between humans and the environment.
