2023 3/27 Professor from Daugavpils University in Latvia visited

On March 27, the "Ministry of Education's Cross-field Aesthetic Education Excellence Pilot Project" went to Xiulin Elementary School in Nantou County for an international scholar visit under the recommendation of the project co-host Professor Zhuang Minren, led by Principal Yang Qingfeng in Daugavpils, Latvia Professor JEĻENA DAVIDOVA of music education at Daugavpils University, Professor Gaļina Zavadska of the Department of Art and Design, Professor Shi Shuxiang of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of National Taichung University of Education, and others jointly experienced the "Bamboo Culture Interdisciplinary Aesthetic Course" and the "Campus Art Festival" activities. Wu Meiling, deputy director of the Nantou County Education Department, Chen Dongmu, the mayor of Zhushan Town, and Liu Yuhu, section chief of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, were also present to support cross-domain aesthetic education and recognized the school’s efforts and achievements in promoting cross-domain aesthetic courses.

In addition to the most distinctive unicycle team and the bamboo orchestra, which won the first prize in percussion ensemble in the National Music Competition finals, the school also arranged a bamboo art course where students and visiting professors made bamboo wind chimes. During lunch time, the school Five or six bamboo dishes of different varieties and methods were also prepared for foreign guests from afar to taste authentic Zhushan cuisine. In addition, the "Campus Art Festival" also connects courses and activities through environmental issues, allowing students to make indigo dyeing and hammer dyeing to learn about the plants on campus that can be used as natural dyes and the principles of dyeing. At the same time, in the handmade paper course, students are asked to look for plant materials on campus, and through natural observation, plant fibers, and color principles, traditional crafts are integrated across fields.

In the afternoon, go to the "Zhushan Cultural Park" and the curator will conduct a park tour to experience the resonance sounds produced by various bamboo musical instruments and the application and transformation of bamboo products in daily life. We also visited the homes of local artists Lin Xiyu and Ye Meisen. Their homes are filled with various bamboo artworks, and a map of 22 counties and cities in Taiwan woven using various traditional bamboo weaving techniques hangs on the wall. Let scholars express their admiration for Taiwanese craftsmanship. Finally, we went to Yuantai Bamboo Art Workshop, a youth entrepreneurial transformation in Zhushan. In the factory of fine craftsmanship, we saw the initial raw materials from mold cutting, finishing, coloring, drying and other processes, using EU-certified non-toxic food-grade dyes and Environmental sustainability and green energy development are the goals, and we also see the younger generation’s inheritance and mission of Taiwan’s craft culture.

In Zhushan Town, you can learn about various bamboo species, growth methods, characteristics and flavors, combine traditional craftsmanship with aesthetic literacy, connect families and communities from the school, and cross-disciplinary aesthetic courses from local to international. At the end, the scholar said that by participating in the cross-field aesthetic courses, the children's enthusiasm and joy for learning as well as the team's cohesive force of cooperation during the performance were seen in their eyes.
