Yunlin County Dounan High School: Cross-disciplinary empowerment workshop—Introduction and analysis of the graduation song of songwriting and composition

Time: November 3, 105 (Thursday)

Lecturer: Professor Chen Yizhen, Theory Composition, Department of Music, National Chiayi University

Location: Yunlin County Dounan High School

Lecture content:

  • Create lyrics:
  1. Make background, object, and establish the theme. The theme includes images and emotions, which can be presented to students using the association method (including similarities and differences).
  2. Use metaphors, truths, rhymes, and contrasts whenever possible.
  3. When writing lyrics, it should include switching between subjectivity and objectivity, and changes in the use of verbs.
  4. The use of long and short sentences can give the lyrics a distinct and varied feeling (call and response can also be used)
  • Coordination of lyrics and music:
  1. Decompose the lyrics (respect the natural rhythm of the lyrics): It doesn’t have to be one word for one sound, it will be too children’s song style, you can have multiple words for one sound
  2. Cadence: The most difficult thing to deal with is (the rhyme of the three tones), so be careful with it.

Avoid emphasizing empty words: do not place heavy beats, do not draw long sounds, and do not place them at relatively high points.

Thoughts and feedback:

This cross-disciplinary workshop focusing on music is the first one for the school to have a music professor give a special speech, and everyone is looking forward to it; the theme part is mainly in line with the school's need to produce a graduation song every year. In the past, Having written graduation songs for three classes, I can directly ask professors about problems encountered by students and the process.

In terms of the content presentation of the workshop, the Chinese liberal arts teacher responded very well to the lyrics creation part. He felt that the professor started from the structural analysis of popular songs and then moved to the creation of lyrics (taking the 105 high school graduation song as an example) to do both positive and negative. Example analysis can help everyone quickly grasp the key points and distinguish the pros and cons.

In addition, in terms of music, I am a music teacher myself. The professor can explain things in a simple and profound way. In terms of creation, I can play with rhythm changes. The original four beats are 1, 2, 3, and 4, which can be cut into irregular 3+ The 3+2 syncopated tone accompaniment can increase the fluidity and change of music. These are all new things that I have not thought of, and I can try to bring them to high school students. I feel that I have learned a lot and cherish this kind of workshop!
