Our school was formerly known as the "National Art School". It was established on October 31, 1944. In 1949, it was reorganized into the "National Taiwan College of Art". In August 1983, it was upgraded to the "National Taiwan College of the Arts". On August 1, 1990, it was renamed " National Taiwan University of Arts". When the school was founded, Mr. Zhang Qiyun, the then Minister of Education, praised the school as "a fertile ground for the Chinese Renaissance" at the school's founding ceremony. Over the years, the school has always shouldered the historical task of inheriting the past and ushering in the future, insisting on "active innovation" , pursuit of excellence", standing on the wave of rising waves of the times, sowing and cultivating. Looking at its height, after the school was approved to unify its departments in the 1996 academic year, it can be said that it has grown into a "complete arts university."
The development of National Taiwan University of Arts over the past half century is equivalent to writing a modern history of Taiwanese art. As the oldest art institution in the country with the most specialized disciplines, National Taiwan University of Arts can be said to be the foundation of Taiwan’s art education. its important town. In the early days of the establishment of the school, many contemporary famous masters—such as Li Meishu, Liao Jichun, Li Shiqiao, Li Zefan, Hong Ruilin, Fu Xuanfu, Yang Yingfeng, Huang Guili, Lin Baojia, Yao Yiwei, Deng Changguo, Xiao Zi, Li Tianmin...etc., have all joined the teaching ranks of our school, not only creating a comprehensive artistic environment for the current society, but also cultivating countless outstanding talents to shine in the field of art.
There are countless outstanding alumni of our school, such as Ang Lee, who won the 78th and 85th Academy Awards for Best Director, Hou Hsiao-hsien, Wang Tong, Ma Shuilong, Zhu Zongqing, Jian Wenbin, Chen Chengxiong, Cai Erping, Guo Chengfeng... and other famous directors. , musicians, artists, designers; their outstanding performance is not only the pride of their alma mater, but also once again demonstrates the fruitful achievements of our school in art education.
