The school was founded in the year before the Republic of China. The school was located in Tsinghua Garden in the western suburbs of Peiping. It was originally named "Tsinghua Academy".
In the winter of the third year of the Republic of China, Mr. Liang Qichao came to the school to give a speech. He quoted from the Book of Changes, "The heaven is strong and a gentleman is constantly striving for self-improvement, and the earth is unfavorable. A gentleman is committed to virtuous conduct." He encouraged the students to expect themselves to be gentlemen. From then on, "to be unceasingly self-improvement and be virtuous." It became the motto of Tsinghua University.
In the 17th year of the Republic of China, the school was officially named National Tsinghua University. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, it moved to Kunming and merged with Peking University and Nankai University to form Southwest Associated University. After the victory, it was demobilized to Peking. Forty-five years later, under the auspices of President Mei Yiqi, the school was reopened in Hsinchu, Taiwan.
Alumni graduated from our school are active in all walks of life, especially in academia. Three Nobel Prize winners and one Woolf Prize winner in mathematics are Tsinghua alumni, which demonstrates Tsinghua’s glorious historical tradition and excellent academic style.
In the early days of its resumption, Tsinghua University focused on atomic science, and later expanded to science and engineering. In the past decade, it has actively developed humanities and society, life sciences, electrical information and technology management; gradually, Tsinghua has become a balanced development of arts, science, and engineering. of schools.
Starting from November 1, 2015, National Tsing Hua University and National Hsinchu University of Education merged into "National Tsing Hua University". The original "National Hsinchu University of Education Affiliated Experimental Elementary School" was also renamed "National Tsinghua University Affiliated Experimental Elementary School".
