Sponsored by Guofeng Junior High School, the Ministry of Education's cross-field aesthetic education activity plan "Flowers in Hometown│Hualien Souvenirs" combines English course teaching and art course aesthetic education. A learning outcome meeting was held at the end of the semester for 29 students in the art class. The students spent several weeks collecting unique souvenirs from Hualien’s towns from north to south. During the meeting, the students shared Hualien’s unique souvenirs one by one and introduced Hualien’s food culture in English, hoping to attract the attention of other counties and cities. My friends knew Hualien and took this opportunity to introduce Hualien to their foreign friends.
The end-of-semester sharing session presented the aroma of various delicacies and the lively atmosphere of the Harvest Festival. The school also specially invited Luo Meilan, a professor from Donghua University, to give an introduction to the presentation, making the entire event process like an academic paper presentation. Students were divided into ten groups in total. , the contents presented include Amis, Taroko, Mambo fish, pig's feet, yokan, moss, daylilies, Tzu Chi vegetarian instant noodles/rice, non-toxic organic vegetarian food, Hualien gemstones, etc.
The students carefully explained the learning results they had prepared for a long time in English in the form of presentations, combined with physical display and song and dance performances. Although some students were slightly nervous, the overall content was praised by the teachers present.
Zhong Yizhi, the principal of Guofeng Junior High School, said that Guofeng Junior High School is a seed school for aesthetic education of the Ministry of Education. After the completion of the preliminary experimental plan, in addition to developing special courses within the school, the school is also responsible for tutoring the aesthetic education courses of Yihua East Three County Experimental School. The investment and efforts of the Guofeng Art and Humanities teaching team in art education not only hope to deepen local cultivation, but also hope to influence the improvement of aesthetic education in neighboring counties and cities, and integrate regional resources to work together for art education.
This cross-field aesthetic course starts with the English class. English introduction to the traditional ritual songs and dances of the Ami people and the totems of the Taroko people
In conjunction with the teaching of the English course, students also introduced Hualien’s aboriginal culture in English. Chen Hongyu, a student from the Ami tribe, introduced the traditional ritual culture of the Ami tribe and the song and dance performances that the tribe is good at in English. Zhang Qiaoxun introduced the totems of the Taroko tribe. The students They used the English sentence patterns learned in the textbook to describe the cultural characteristics of Hualien, and also allowed what they learned in the classroom to be applied in practical life.
Ink painting instructor Tang Xiangying said that at the end of the course, students were asked to present their research results in ink paintings, hoping that through the culturally distinctive ink texture design, they would belong to Hualien's cultural and creative art.
