The Experimental Primary School affiliated with the National Taipei University of Education launched a cross-generational co-creation course this summer. With the theme of tops, three generations of grandparents were invited to explore and practice, integrate technology and art, and work together to complete a large, shiny top. This year’s Taipei City Education Expo was on display to realize the vision of young and old learning and having fun together.
Teachers Wen Zhirong, Zhan Yupu and Yan Zhixian, a cross-disciplinary aesthetic team from the primary school affiliated to the North China University of Education, invited 10 students to bring their grandfathers and grandmothers to participate in a grandparent-grandchild learning activity. Teacher Yan Zhixian explained that this activity is based on the theme of tops, and traditional tops and battle tops, which are popular among children, have been prepared for interactive teaching. In the online course, they first planned the production of paper tops, and then used wooden boards to design laser engravings. Grandparents and grandchildren brainstormed and worked together to complete a creative and distinctive oversized top.
Principal Zhu Qinjie said that spinning tops are familiar children's toys from old to young. The course applies the concept of STEAM technology to artistic creation. The surface of the top is a pattern designed by students' creativity, and LED lights are installed inside. The power-on and power-off principles learned in the fourth grade natural field allow the top to create flickering and different lighting effects when it rotates.
Teacher Ngan Chi-yin said that this course not only allows grandparents and grandchildren to play creatively, but also enhances communication and emotional connections between generations. The elders couldn't wait to share the joy of making hand-made tops in their childhood, and the children also took their grandparents to play with the most popular fighting tops. In the practical courses, the elders not only shared their experiences, but also contributed their professional skills to guide the children to complete the works step by step.
From top design, laser engraving machine creation, top assembly, to painted tops, everyone worked together to create a large-scale top that integrates technology and art, bridging the interaction between generations, enhancing the emotional connection between families, and leaving a lasting legacy to three generations of grandparents. beautiful memories.
