Taoyuan City Dazhong Elementary School—SEL-Art and Happiness Journey

Children of the technological generation often don’t know how to deal with setbacks, and we often see students expressing their emotions in the wrong ways, causing many campus incidents. Faced with the endless stream of campus news about similar situations, the teaching team of Dazhong Elementary School has been thinking carefully about how to teach children to recognize emotions and be aware of their inner emotional problems. In this innovation, we use a cross-domain art curriculum to help children introspect and empathize, and become messengers of positive energy. First of all, in the course of "The Motion of Ignorance - The Voice of Energy", we let the children start by reading the text, then appreciate the feelings brought to us by the combination of music melody and positive language and text, and then deeply understand their own emotions through the interpretation of facial expressions. We also use AI-generated pictures and visual arts to cross the language field to create emotion learning picture books, and finally use SUNO song generation to convey positive thinking. This program specifically incorporates the five core concepts of SEL social emotional learning into the curriculum, allowing us to see the beauty of children's humanity from the inside out. It also achieves literacy-oriented teaching in a cross-disciplinary way. After this teaching experience, students have used their own strength to fulfill their civic responsibilities in diverse artistic creative activities, and published what they know through learning platforms and public venues to expand their influence and contribute to social welfare.
