Penghu County Baisha Junior High School─The beauty of silver

The land in Penghu is saline and alkaline, giving people a desolate, earthy brown feeling. The abundance of Leucaena adds to the greenery of Penghu, bringing convenience to the lives of the ancestors and creating economic value for the agricultural and pastoral society. In the early days, it was a large number of beneficial plants introduced. Today, Leucaena is the most dominant species in the wild in Penghu. Clusters of Leucaena can be seen in scattered small forests all over Baisha Township. Due to its strong adaptability, resistance to barrenness, resistance to drought, and high fecundity, even though only a few can adapt to the harsh conditions of Penghu, Exotic leguminous plants in the environment have also caused land exclusivity. After eradication, the land is still toxic and the land becomes barren. Only Leucaena can be continuously planted, giving people a negative impression of being exclusive and domineering.

It originally had the functions of soil conservation, sand fixation, nitrogen fixation, providing livestock feed and firewood supply. With the progress of modernization, in the late 1970s of the Republic of China, gas replaced leucaena firewood, and young people also moved to the island to develop. Continuing to engage in farming in Penghu, Leucaena spread all over the fields and no one cared about it. Apart from the government spending huge sums of money to eradicate it, is there any better way to deal with it? Can it be processed into stationery? Or art creation materials? Art creation not only includes traditional forms of expression such as painting and sculpture, but also three-dimensional, natural, and local materials that can be used, and large-scale installation art is a form of art creation that students rarely participate in. This project hopes to introduce the characteristics, impacts, and existing solutions of Leucaena in Baisha Township, Penghu. Some people have already made Leucaena into furniture, and sold food and tea. Making Leucaena into cultural and creative products, landscape art and installation art is the route this project is trying to take. The teacher guides the students to think about what decorations can be made from the branches, branches and leaves of Leucaena, how can they beautify the environment, and how can they become one of the elements of creation?

The characteristics and aesthetics of the school are designed and imagined by the students. What is the art work that is suitable for the school? Where in the school needs to be beautified? Students are concerned about where improvements need to be made, which in turn arouses their feelings and sense of responsibility to do better. Leucaena has not only become a characteristic of Baisha Township, but also a local natural material that embellishes the campus. Students can use English to navigate the campus and cooperate with the school's guide system to introduce the campus Leucaena artworks and the history of Leucaena. The school's attractions and richness will be increased. Students on campus will have an increased sense of campus identity. The community will also benefit from Baisha Country. The creative students are proud of the fact that they have completed an art creation project, which has become a beautiful memory of their career in the junior high school, and they are also proud of the group's creative achievements.
