Tainan City Fuxing Junior High School is one of the few schools in Taiwan that was able to retain the old school gate and juxtapose it with the new school gate during the replacement of campus buildings. Early campus buildings in Taiwan reflected cultural characteristics such as ethical norms and ease of management. With the evolution of the times, and the 921 earthquake that prompted the renewal of campus buildings in Taiwan, many schools have been renovated, showing the campus atmosphere of the new era through new school buildings. However, Fuxing Junior High School was unable to completely renovate the school building, leaving the campus full of a wonderful juxtaposition of antiques and modernity. However, from a cultural asset perspective, this is a point of opportunity. If we can be more aware of the cultural artifacts and historical trajectories of the environment we live in, we will be more aware that we are walking in the torrent of history, enjoying the past and creating the future.
This semester's course starts with a discussion on the concept of "new and old", allowing students to expand their thinking and refocus through learning activities, using the old school gate and the new school gate on the campus to discuss their form and cultural codes, creation era background and functional delivery. Have conversations and think juxtaposedly from different angles. Students will deeply observe and compare the styles of the old and new gates of the revitalized junior high school through on-site painting, and understand the historical and cultural codes and symbols they carry through discussions on the historical background. Finally, with the theme of the old and new schools, the thoughts and feelings of the previous learning process were condensed into new poem creation, which was used as the main display form of this learning achievement.
