Tainan City Beimen High School─Day Drama Theater

Jintang Hall is one of the monuments closest to the school. Its history can be traced back to the 17th century. It can bear witness to the development history of the area. It is also a major religious center in the area. There are a large number of shearing and sticking works of Shantou craftsman He Jinlong. The work is exquisite and gorgeous, which is rare in Taiwan. Its theme is similar to that of other temples, which are the themes of traditional operas. The craftsmen arranged the figures in dramatic costumes into "walls" to form a "condensation" State drama, in the past when "stills" were not yet popular, was nothing more than a sculptor's presentation and idea of stories and dramas.
Our school is a community-based high school. Many local students have gone in and out of Jintang Temple, but few have a deep understanding of the history of this temple, let alone carefully observe the fine shear and glue on the walls. Most of the time we tend to take things in life for granted and then turn a blind eye to them. Therefore, this project hopes to use three teachers to lead students to watch the temple carefully. In addition to learning the traditional culture and texts related to the temple, through the guidance of drama workers, they will discuss and perform the drama in the wall.
The art teacher first led the students to visit the temple, looking at the overall architecture from a broad perspective, and asked the students to find various "identification certificates" of the temple to infer the age of the temple. Then they looked at the details, admiring the cut-outs on the walls, and through hand-painted Cutting and gluing works can give you a deeper understanding of the beauty of this craft. For some obscure opera stories, Chinese language teachers used relevant ancient Chinese to explain them, and at the same time deepened students' reading ability in ancient Chinese. In the end, the students had a considerable understanding of the drama text. Through the guidance of the drama teacher, they re-discussed the human emotions and dramatic tension in traditional opera. Through "freeze-frame imitation", they re-interpreted new stories and thoughts.
