Tainan City Heshun Junior High School─Graceful Ye Zi shows off her skills

Our school is located in the Taijiang area, which carries the history of Taiwan’s development and rich ecological resources. In order to provide diversified learning and environmental education for all students in the school, we specially applied for the "Roots and Shoots | Green Thumb Project" of the International Jane Goodall Education and Conservation Association in 2018, and planted magnolias, gardenias, and obovate leaves on the campus. There are more than 20 Taiwanese native plants including orchids, goosefoot vines, water barks, Taiwan oaks, and Manjushri orchids. It is hoped that through cross-disciplinary courses, students can have a deeper feeling about the place where they live, and through the leaf photo frame show, they can affirm themselves and care about the ecological environment of this land.
The structure of this course is based on the theme of campus plants. It cooperates with the library's "Playing with Flowers and Grass" book exhibition series activities and combines reading strategies to read plant illustrations. Students use the "Xingse" APP to select the leaves that they feel the most about on campus and get to know them in depth. In the life science and technology class, this leaf was used as the theme of the picture. After individual observation, students found the size of the photo frame that showed the best aesthetic proportions of the selected leaves. They applied the manual woodworking skills they learned to complete their own unique handmade woodworking works. Finally, combined with the diverse life types of leaves, it was applied to the design of the catwalk route, and the self-made leaf photo frames were displayed on the stage to share the joy of achievement and thereby enhance self-confidence. During the process of creating leaf photo frames and catwalk exercises, students must design and plan in advance, and patiently repeat simple actions to achieve the most beautiful results.
