Long is not only a "chicken coop", but also has the name "Liujiang". Keelung has a deep connection with horseshoe crabs. In the past, when Keelung Port was undeveloped, historical records record that there were two small islands, Horseshoe Crab and Horseshoe Crab, in the port area. A large horseshoe crab population once thrived. The "Hammon Crab Island" was once one of the eight scenic spots in Keelung. "It describes the island scenery surrounded by water vapor. In Keelung's harbor at that time, horseshoe crabs were a ubiquitous creature. The horseshoe crab is an ancient creature that has existed on the earth for more than 400 million years, older than the dinosaurs. It has survived four mass extinctions, so it is also known as a living fossil. There are currently four species of horseshoe crabs in the world, and the one in Taiwan belongs to the three-spined horseshoe crab.
The horseshoe crab is an ancient creature that plays a crucial role in biology, but its population has been greatly reduced due to habitat destruction. The horseshoe crab is one of the indicator species for coastal health. The three-spined horseshoe crab's life is closely related to the coast, and its habitat is very close to people. This course is based on the marine education resources of the Keelung National Museum of Marine Science and Technology. The marine science museum brings the conservation issue of "horses crab" into the school. Our school also participated in this project. The marine science museum allows participating schools to adopt 100 eggs and 10 little horseshoe crabs. Since the beginning of the school year, students have been allowed to personally participate in and assist in the work of incubating horseshoe crab eggs, including measuring water quality, changing water, and observing the changes of horseshoe crab eggs every day. When the horseshoe crab eggs hatch successfully into small horseshoe crabs, they will molt and grow up. Can be released back into the wild habitat.
It is hoped that students can speak out for the restoration environment of horseshoe crabs, strengthen the cross-field integration of marine education and aesthetic education, and use a problem-oriented approach to guide students to learn to restore "horseshoe crabs" and explore marine ecology and environment, through observation and recording, analysis and integration, and inductive reflection. and innovate and create art, and then learn independently, cultivate aesthetic experience and practice literacy to protect the ocean and ecological environment. The works created by students in the art course will also be sold for charity at school activities in the next semester, and the proceeds from the charity sale will become the school's horseshoe crab breeding fund.
