What is cross-disciplinary aesthetic education?

Cross-field aesthetic education is based on the art field represented by Arts as the core, and connects interdisciplinary learning as the design concept. It is expected that students will obtain a more comprehensive and innovative subject and art learning process through the promotion of cross-field aesthetic courses.

Art is an important social and cultural activity. It not only has its own development process, characteristics and values, but also plays an intermediary and catalyst role in different activities in various fields. In the context of ever-changing globalization, cross-field abilities have become an important concept in educational reforms in various countries.

With the launch of the 12-year national education, Taiwan's education reform has reached a new milestone. Whether it is curriculum development, teaching and learning of teachers and students, it will follow the trend of the times and show a different educational landscape. In practice, the art field can cultivate diverse thinking for different fields through mechanisms such as creation, appreciation, and performance. Therefore, in the education field, using the art field as the core of cross-field curriculum promotion can add value to the teaching effectiveness of various subjects, further subtly improve students' aesthetic literacy, and provide the core qualities necessary for future citizens.

Since its inception in 2014, the cross-disciplinary aesthetic education project has gone through the first four phases of "development", "deep cultivation", "promotion" and "transformation", and the fifth phase has now entered the "diffusion" phase. This phase of the project is in line with the Ministry of Education’s third phase of the aesthetic education medium and long-term plan promotion policy, and will focus on the development of Social Emotional Learning (also known as SEL), the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 19 items of the 108 curriculum. Cross-disciplinary aesthetic courses integrating topics.

Based on this, the planning team looks back on the past and focuses on the future. It will combine the power of seed schools and teacher training partner universities to integrate artistic knowledge through courses and activate subject teaching in the education stages from 1 to 16 years; and bring together the experience accumulated over the years. Research resources and course results, refine course modules, and construct exemplary cross-field aesthetic courses. We continue to uphold the core spirit of the project and use the art field to connect the curriculum development of various disciplines to expand students' learning experience and enrich their aesthetic literacy. Implement the country’s current important education policies.
